FRIENDS WITH BOOKS - ART BOOK FAIR BERLIN 2018 @ HAMBURGER BAHNHOF, BERLIN 19-21 OKTOBER 2018

Friends with Books @ Hamburger Bahnhof

How many Friends with benefits have you had? I count on my behalf around 200. But, not misunderstand, instead of the classical 'benefits', the ones in my account are mostly books, magazines, periodicals and anything that on paper can be written and produced.Indeed 200 is the number of independent publishers participants at Friends with Books, the Berliner premiere festival in Europe of contemporary artists ' books, periodicals and art publishers. The precious Festival, now in its fourth edition, took place in the exhibition halls of the Hamburger Bahnhof. Free entry. The non-profit organization was founded by Vanessa Adler, Director & Co-Founder, Savannah Gorton, Curator & Co-Founder, Nora Gogl, Assistant Curator, Harriet Gibson, Managing Editor & Programme Coordinator, Nico Limo, Programme & Graphic Design Assistant, Olympe Silve, Programme Assistant, Franck Rausch, Installation Manager, Tobias Oettel, Finance Manager, Dr. Michael Lailach, Advisor, Erik Steinbrecher, Artist Advisor
Among the exhibitors there were also The Paper Channel, with a special selection of books with pages cut into reliefs, ActA, a collective of artists who presented a special edition of USBPen publication, AND Publishing by Eva Weinmayr and Rosalie Schwiker, the the ironic and irreverent publications by BOLO, Black Palm Berlin with a cat- artist calendar and Vegetable Lamb Press/ Wordpharmacy  that offered special consultation with a specialist to suggest which 'words' you need to use more by Morten Søndergaard. The challenge that these independent publishers, writers and producers are not indifferent. In addition to the inevitable difficulties that every publication can meet, there is also the internet phagocytizer and self-publishing. But these publishers seem to have accepted the challenge and are constantly trying to renew themselves by partially absorbing these obstacles.Together with the stands of the various artists, publishers, writers, etc. there was also a space dedicated to children's space "Haven" by Zora Mann and Øyvind Renberg together with their mothers: a felt paintings that evolve around a pink staircase. The "kids space" also hosted an installation of Christoph Ruckhaeberle, "Untitled" (2018), a large curtains of festive dancing figures. The public program proposed discussions, readings, presentations, performances and works of art that focus on the meaning of public art today.you can read more about Friends with Books on the blog : http://friendswithbooksartbookfairberlin.blogspot.com/
